Start kids in sports when THEY are ready.

Published by peterj at 9:41 am under Sports Edit This

As a former educator and coach with over 15 years experience, I have seen many success and failures of young boys and girls who played sports in their young formative years. What is most important, though, when beginning your child in sports, is making sure that they are ready. This means that no parent should start their kids until they are mentally ready. Physical shortcomings can be overcome when the child is prepared enough in their mind. If they are interested and want to try, let them do it. If they are not interested, don’t push them. The latter is the first step in failure. No success. Remember, begin when they are ready. Too many times parents start their kids not in what the child is interested in, but what they themselves are interested in. Some sort of “living their own lives” through the experiences of their own child. That, is mistake number two. That is topic for the next discussion.
